Garden for Entertaining

The garden was dominated by an old filled in pond which was located in the sunniest space in the garden. The garden is viewed throughout the year from the kitchen-dining room. The new design needed to create a space for entertaining and enjoying the sunshine and provide changing interest and a focal point from the house. The pond was permanently filled in and a new patio created in the sunniest part of the garden for entertaining and al-fresco dining. A raised border was constructed along the boundary to manage the change in levels across the site and allow easy maintenance of the border. An area of lawn was retained for the dogs to run about on and the borders were filled with plants that coped well with the shady conditions and that would give a long season of interest. These also included spiky plants along the boundary to deter intruders from the busy Deeside way that runs along side the garden. Existing plants were retained where possible to provide maturity in the new garden.
